The Sixth Commandment the shortest of the Ten Commandments first appears in Exodus 20. The King James Version translates it. "Thou shalt not kill;" the New American Standard Bible renders it more correctly "You shall not murder." This commandment is repeated six times - Deuteronomy 5:17 Matthew 5:21 Mark 10:19 Luke 18:20 Romans 13:9 and James 2:11
Although not expressly codified before Moses received Yahweh's Commandments at Mt. Sinai all ten Commandments were in force before Noah's day as evidenced in the following passage invoking the Sixth Commandment:
...God blessed Noah and his sons and said unto them....And surely of your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man's blood by man shall his bood be shed. For in the image of God made he man. (Genesis 9:1-6).Covers every type of life-taking action - including suicide.
