The Third Commandment is cited four times in the Old Testament:: Exodus 20:7 Leviticus 19:12 22:32 and Deuteronomy 5:11.
The First and Second Commandments' mandate that we worship only one God the creator and sustainer of the universe. The third commandment requires that we correctly identify and appropriately honor this God.
Although the First Commandment does not appear in its commandment form in the New Testament its essential fundamental premise is found in several New Testament passages.
Correctly identifying God requires that we understand who He is beginning with His name.
